Edtech Is Transforming Teaching And Learning – Is this a Silver bullet?
Education is changing. It is being transformed by technology, hardware, software, and other tools that educational institutions and students use for learning. These tools help students attend their classes, collaborate, engage with remote students, or learn in a new way, inside the classroom or outside of it. These include video conferencing cameras/apps, digital whiteboards, presentation and design software.
In this article, we are exploring how effective EdTech can be on its own. But first, a brief look at what might be coming down the road – from AI-assisted teachers and virtual reality simulations to augmented reality textbooks and virtual classrooms.
Artificial intelligence
AI can help students with learning disabilities, language barriers and special needs.
AI is transforming education in ways we never thought possible. AI-powered tutors are already making a difference in helping students learn and succeed in school. Teachers worldwide are using AI-powered technology to improve their teaching ability and even become better at their jobs. These technologies will only grow as they become more affordable and accessible for schools everywhere.
Virtual reality and augmented reality
Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are expanding their reach in education, training, and entertainment. VR is used for medical training, engineering, and architecture; AR is used for business, education, and entertainment. Gaming is a vital driver of the growth of both technologies as they become more accessible to consumers.
Is Edtech a silver bullet?
The future of learning is being transformed by various technologies changing how we learn. Learning is not simply about technology but can be enhanced by technology.
While technology and digital innovation can make teaching and learning more interesting, engaging and personalised, it is not a silver bullet. It requires thoughtful planning and application to help people make sense of information and communicate their ideas more effectively. Teachers are one of the most critical factors in student learning. Teachers still need to provide high-quality instruction that is well-aligned with the curriculum. Technology alone will not improve student achievement or close achievement gaps. Schools must implement their instructional technology in ways that support teachers so they can continue to be influential instructional leaders in the classroom. Moreover, for students to succeed with digital learning experiences, teachers must be supported by administrators and colleagues who advocate for best practices in using technology effectively in their classrooms.
Teachers are one of the most critical factors in student learning.
Teachers have a significant impact on students’ education. Many think the most critical factor in student learning is the material taught but is this wholly true?
A teacher can make or break a student’s education with their attitude and behaviour, so choosing good teachers for your classroom is essential.
Digital innovation potential
Educators should carefully consider how technology can be used to enhance teachers’ ability to teach and how it can be used to enhance students’ ability to learn. Digital innovation has the potential to transform learning by enabling students and teachers alike to access new tools that enhance the effectiveness of their classroom activities. As we know from decades of research on effective teaching practices, having a clear goal or objective for your lesson is extremely important for ensuring everyone knows what they’re trying to achieve during class (and after). But with so much information available online today—including videos about different kinds of topics—it’s easy for teachers who have never used these resources before (or who are unfamiliar with them) not only to get overwhelmed but also spend much more time than necessary trying out new things instead of focusing on what matters most: helping students achieve those goals!
Conclusion
To enhance EdTech effectiveness, educators are encouraged to use various tools rather than one platform because each device has strengths and weaknesses; some may not be able to meet all the needs of your school’s curriculum or professional development program(s). Also, consider whether you need access on multiple devices (e.g., computers/laptops vs tablets vs smartphones) when selecting technologies for use within your school community.
As technology continues its rapid evolution and innovation, we should expect to see even more changes in education. Some of those changes may be positive, but others may not benefit educators and learners. Technology has the potential to make learning more accessible, more personalised and engaging; however, it can also distract us from more important aspects of schooling like social interaction or face-to-face interactions with teachers who provide support outside of class time. There will always be a place for human teachers (at least until robots take over). Still, as AI gets smarter by the day, it might soon become impossible for humans to compete with computers at tasks such as grading essays or answering questions correctly on standardised tests like the SATs!
A lot more can be said in this article, but it has been kept brief. Do you think Edtech is effective on its own? Please share your thought.
